Fans of FX’s hilarious animated spy series “Archer” are likely still reeling from last week’s season finale that ended with quite the cliffhanger, but talk of a live action movie version of the show is already generating serious excitement about what master spy Sterling Archer might look like real life.

The idea of shooting a live action feature for “Archer” has been tossed around for multiple years, executive producers Matt Thompson and Casey Willis recently told The Daily Beast.

“The talk is there, we just still haven’t decided,” Thompson said, adding that a movie version would probably come only after a series finale for the TV show. Season 7 of “Archer” ended last week.

Ultimately, the decision will come down to show creator Adam Reed, but the issue of who would play the lead role has apparently already been decided.“It’s Jon Hamm,” Thompson said, adding that the tricky part is what to do about the fact that the animated character is voiced by Jon Benjamin. “Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him?

At the moment, indecision seems to be the main challenge to the project. “Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’” Thompson said. “But if it is live action—and if it is not Jon Benjamin—it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”
