The actress will star and produce the film along with McKay who is set to direct, write and produce through his Gary Sanchez banner.
Theranos was founded in 2003 and claimed to have revolutionized blood testing. However, in the past weeks, the company has been under investigation over claims of inaccurate tests results. Last year Holmes, who was valued at $4.5 billion, was named the youngest female self-made billionaire by Forbes, but now her net worth has been reduced to fractions of that following the allegations. Both her and Theranos executives have denied the claims against the company and are working with authorities to resolve any issues.
Variety adds that the pair will meet with studios next week to pitch the yet untitled project.
McKay’s last film about the financial crisis story won him an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and garnered rave reviews. Lawrence, also an Oscar-winner, is known for her depictions of strong and powerful female characters. Most recently she received an Academy Award nomination for her role as Miracle Mop creator Joy Mangano in David O. Russell’s “Joy.”
Lawrence has a slew of projects she is working on. She can be seen next in Morten Tyldum’s “Passengers” opposite Chris Pratt, out in theaters on December 21. She is also playing Marita Lorenz, the real-life lover of Fidel Castro who was involved in a plot to assassinate him, in the film “Marita” and is working on an untitled Darren Aronofsky film that will be released by Paramount.
