Opportunities to break into the industry are continuously expanding. In a search to discover new and unique talent in the sphere of indie TV, Seed&Spark and SeriesFest, as well as Band of Outsiders and Fullscreen, have partnered for the New Voice Crowdfunding Rally, a chance for creators behind independent series to either win a development deal from Band of Outsiders and $30,000, courtesy of MasterCard, or have their content go Straight-to-Series with Fullscreen.

The fundraising rally starts on September 12 and ends on October 14 later this year. In order to get their pilot or teaser produced, the artists have to complete two objectives during the month: raising no less than $10,000 for production and amassing a following on Seed&Spark of no less than 1,000 people. Once the rally has ended, the creators will have until March 2017 to complete their pilot or teaser, the top ten of which with the largest following having the opportunity to premiere their projects at SeriesFest 2017 and a chance at the grand prize.

Submissions open today — in line with the kickoff of SeriesFest 2016 in Denver, Colorado — and will be accepted until September 1. “From Day One, Seed&Spark has been committed to helping underrepresented storytellers find their audience and their voice,” said Seed&Spark CEO Emily Best in a statement. “With the New Voice Crowdfunding Rally, we’re highlighting all of the amazing creativity and diversity the next wave of great TV creators has to offer.”

In their official announcement, Seed&Spark cites “#OscarsSoWhite, the lack of female leadership roles on Hollywood sets, and whitewashing of ethnic characters in Hollywood movies” as integral reasons for this need for both diverse series and creators behind them. The rally holds diversity to such huge importance that Fullscreen is offering a Straight-to-Series prize, consisting of $50,000 web series production deal and a premiere at the 2017 SeriesFest, for the creator that completes both objectives of $10,000 and 100 followers with a project “showcasing a diverse story featuring a protagonist who is 18 – 25 years old.”

With another additional prize, Seed&Spark will offer the opportunity for a Filmmaker Gift Box worth more than $8,000 to every contestant that hits 1,000 followers. The gift consists of: “technology from companies like Teradek and G-Technology; private consultations with industry professionals on topics including the legal side of filmmaking and film festival strategy; post-production services, including music and end credits; and film festival waivers.”
