Nicolas Winding Refn’s “The Neon Demon” follows aspiring model Jesse (Elle Fanning) who moves to Los Angeles with the goal of making it big. She’s quickly recruited by a powerful fashion mogul (Alessandro Nivola) as her muse and starts making a name for herself, but soon the other models in the town become jealous of Jesse’s youth and vitality. Soon, Jesse has to face off against beauty-obsessed women and a cruel industry that will do anything possible to use her up and dispose her. Watch an exclusive TV spot for the film above.
Director Nicolas Winding Refn is best known for his 2011 neo-noir thriller “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling as a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver that gets wrapped up in a criminal web involving his neighbors. He has also directed the “Pusher” trilogy, crime drama “Bleeder,” the fictionalized biographical film about Charles Bronson “Bronson,” and “Only God Forgives,” which competed for the Palme D’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and received a very divided response from critics and audiences.
Fanning is best known for her starring roles in Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere,” Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought a Zoo,” J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8.”
“The Neon Demon” premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Amazon Studios and Broad Green Pictures will release it into theaters on June 24th.
