When Billy Eichner hits the streets for Season 5 of “Billy on the Street,” as always, he won’t be alone. Announced today as upcoming guests were Aziz Ansari, Jon Hamm, Lupita N’yong’o, John Oliver and Seth Rogen — all of whom can expect to get a workout following Eichner around the streets of New York.
Eichner in fact is in “the best shape of my life” thanks to the show, as he explained at the TCA summer press tour. “I don’t really train to do ‘Billy on the Street’ — that would be bizarre,” he said. “But I have lost weight doing it.”
Eichner and his producers unveiled a few other basic details about the production, including the fact that on average, every episode of the bit-driven man-on-the-street series requires about four days of filming.
When asked about the kind of reaction they tend to get on the street, Eichner said that “nine out of 10 people just walk past me,” and that if someone recognizes him, in general he’ll avoid using them on the show.
“It is spontaneous and always has been spontaneous,” he added. “At this point I’ve gotten every reaction. New Yorkers are very savvy. That’s what’s fun about the show. They give it back to me as much as I give it to them.”
Eichner’s time on stage was brief, but a pleasure — especially when one journalist attempted to cut him off mid-answer, and in classic Billy form, Billy shut that down.
