Joey Bada$$ Was Cast in Barack Obama Biopic ‘Barry’ But Was Too Busy Playing Coachella to Take the Role

At least he was able to make season two of Mr. Robot.

Coachella is home to many lost phones and other personal items, but how many of us have ever lost a movie role by heading out to Indio? That unfortunate fate befell Joey Bada$$, who’s joined season two of USA Network’s acclaimed “Mr. Robot” as Leon and says he was cast in the upcoming Barack Obama biopic “Barry” — but couldn’t make it, as he was performing at the music festival during filming.

“I was supposed to be his best friend,” he elaborates in a Rolling Stone interview. “I was the guy who was supposed to show him the projects, and show him how black people was living in America at the time.” His forays into acting date back to his high school days, when he performed in both a student-written play called “John Cusack Is Not a Famous Actor” (nice title) and a production of “Alice in Wonderland.”

Joey’s debut album “B4.DA.$$” was released last year, and “Mr. Robot” returns tonight.
