The long-awaited third season of “Twin Peaks” isn’t Mark Frost’s only upcoming project related to the show he co-created with David Lynch. His book “The Secret History of Twin Peaks” is also soon to be released, and Flatiron Books has just put out a fittingly evocative trailer for Frost’s tell-all. Watch it below.
A roving close-up on various ephemera from the show — a cup of damn good coffee, a slice of pie, various secret documents, even that famous log — eventually lands on the book itself, as well as a revelation: “The Secret History of Twin Peaks” is a novel. We may have to enter the Black Lodge in order to get a sense of the implications of that knowledge, assuming it’s actually true. (Amazon’s description of the book is fairly straightforward, for what it’s worth: “A vastly layered, wide-ranging history that deepens the mysteries of the iconic town in ways that will thrill disciples of the original series, and will prep fans for the upcoming Showtime series like nothing else out there.”)
The trailer ends as it must: with the first few seconds of the show’s iconic theme song before an abrupt cut-out. “The Secret History of Twin Peaks” is out on October 18, while season three of the show is expected to air on Showtime next year.
