With just 43 days to go until the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival kicks off, it’s time to learn a little bit more about what organizers have planned for this year.

Per tradition, TIFF will be announcing their 2016 Gala Screenings and Special Presentations live this morning with an official press conference that is scheduled to begin at 10am ET. Will the festival open like it did last year with a non-awards player like “Demolition”? Or are they hoping to be at the forefront of the Oscar conversation with a splashy opening night contender?

As many readers probably know, TIFF is one of the major fall festivals that serve as a precursor to emerging Oscar contenders. Last year’s People’s Choice Winner (the highest honor TIFF bestows) was “Room,” which was always a Best Actress contender for Brie Larson until the TIFF grand prize elevated its exposure. The film would go on to earn major nominations for Best Director and Best Picture. Other recent TIFF winners include Oscar winner “Silver Linings Playbook” and nominee “The Imitation Game.”

Watch the livestream below, and stick with IndieWire this morning for a full rundown of this year’s slate.
