Variety Hosts Inaugural Sports Entertainment Summit With Kobe Bryant As Keynote Speaker

The collaboration with Sports Illustrated will take place on July 14 in Los Angeles.

This July 14, Variety and Sports Illustrated are teaming up to hold their first ever Sports Entertainment Industry Summit. The inaugural event will be held at the Vibiana in Los Angeles and include five-time NBA Champion, NBA MVP and NBA’s 3rd all-time leading scorer Kobe Bryant as a keynote speaker.

“With every passing year, the sports world becomes a more critical component of the broader media and entertainment ecosystem,” said Variety co-editor-in-chief Andrew Wallenstein. “This collaboration with Sports Illustrated allows Variety to demonstrate its commitment to covering the facets of our business that are of the utmost importance to our readers.”

The one-day summit will cover topics on the intersection between sports and entertainment, the state of live sports coverage, the future of in-stadium/arena entertainment, sports marketing, high tech sports – VR & augmented reality, engaging millennial sports fans and masters of sports storytelling. It will also include a Los Angeles Rams special session featuring Kevin Demoff, Los Angeles Rams general manager, and Jeff Fisher, Los Angeles Rams coach.

Other keynote speakers include three-time NBA Champion and Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade with CAA sports agent Lisa Joseph-Metelus. Additional speakers include Craig Barry, chief content officer, Turner Sports; Mitch Covington, head of sports marketing, Monster Energy; Dany Garcia, principal Seven Bucks Productions and executive producer (“Ballers,” “Baywatch”); Brandon Gayle, head of global sports partnerships, Instagram; Chris Hercik, SVP of creative and content, the Foundry, Time Inc and many more.
