Ellen Page and Kate Mara are set to star alongside each other in Tali Shalom Ezer’s romantic drama “Mercy,” Variety reports. The film will also feature turns from Amy Seimetz, Pablo Schreiber and Elias Koteas.

Per Variety, “Page is portraying Lucy, the daughter of a man on death row falling in love with Mara’s Mercy character, a woman on the opposing side of her family’s political cause. As a result, Lucy’s value for truth is tested as her world begins to unravel.”

Ezer, who previously directed the Sundance drama “Princess,” will direct the film from a script by Joe Barton. The film will be produced by Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa for Killer Films, along with Page and Mara. And it sounds like “Mercy” is a passion project for everyone involved, as Page has been chatting it up for nearly a year, and Vachon and Hinojosa have expressed great excitement over both the film and the talent attached to it.

“We were so enthralled by Tali’s first film and have been looking to work with Ellen and Kate for years. This is the perfect project to bring everybody together,” the Killer Films duo told Variety.

The Emmy-nominated Mara will next be seen in the sci-fi thriller “Morgan,” due out on September 2, and in other upcoming features, including the war drama “Megan Leavey,” the short story-inspired “The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards” and in John Curran’s fact-based “Chappaquiddick.” Page has a number of things lined up, including the “Flatliners” remake, Reed Morano’s “Lioness,” “Robodog” and the zombie thriller “The Third Wave.”

“Mercy” is set to start shooting in Cincinnati next month.
