CBS Films has hired Jennifer Chambers Lynch to direct “Hellfest,” a horror thriller produced by Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Pictures. Lynch, the daughter of David Lynch, has directed two episodes of Hurd‘s AMC series “The Walking Dead;”; the director made her feature debut in 1993 with “Boxing Helena.” “Hellfest” marks Lynch’s fifth feature; her last film, “Chained,” was released by Anchor Bay on home video in 2012. She has directed multiple shorts and episodes on some 13 TV series, many of which are genre fare.
“When I saw the level of passion and professionalism Jen brought to ‘The Walking Dead’ when she directed for us, I knew I had found the right director to helm ‘Hellfest,'” Hurd said. “Her vision for the film is not only compelling and character driven, but very, very scary!”
Hurd brought “Hellfest” —which is set on Halloween at a theme park where a costumed killer begins slaying unsuspecting patrons— to CBS Films. “Jennifer came to us with both the passion and the vision necessary to make ‘Hellfest’ a terrifying Halloween tradition,” stated CBS Films President Terry Press, “much like the growing phenomenon of the theme park horror nights enjoyed by millions the world over.”
Production will begin this winter at a theme park.
CBS Films‘ “Hell Or High Water” opens in limited release on Friday.
