With “Kubo and the Two Strings” just a few weeks away, mere trailers are apparently no longer sufficient to build hype for Travis Knight’s animated adventure starring Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson, Ralph Fiennes and Rooney Mara. The featurette invites you to “fulfill Kubo’s destiny by exploring all the stops on his quest.” There are nine different locations that you can click to, choose-your-own-adventure style: Hall of Bones, Long Lake, The Garden of Eyes, Hanzo’s Fortress, the Ice Fields, Spirits’ Gate, Sun Village, the Dark Sea and Mortal’s Point. These exotic-sounding locales are all part of the Vastlands, and laid out on a beautifully illustrated map.

The attention to detail is impressive, and hopefully a good omen for the film itself — it’s hard out here for Pixar agnostics who wouldn’t mind whimsical animated fare every so often. We’ll find out when “Kubo” is released in theaters on August 19.
