The latest IMAX trailer for Clint Eastwood’s upcoming drama “Sully” about Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger’s “Miracle on the Hudson” delves into the lesser known story about the 2009 US Airways water landing in the Hudson River: the investigation that accused Sullenberger of endangering the lives of the 155 people on board who survived.
“Until I read the script I didn’t know the investigative board was trying to paint the picture that he had done the wrong thing,” Eastwood said in a video accompanying the trailer. “They were kind of railroading him. That wasn’t the case at all.” The video also includes the real Chesley Sullenberger on the set of the movie, who described the experience of making a successful emergency landing as “a life-changing event for everybody on the airplane.” He added the fact that the NTSB investigation is a big part of the story that most people don’t know anything about.
The new trailer and behind-the-scenes video features Hanks and co-star Aaron Eckhart as the pilots of US Airways Flight 1549 and Laura Linney as Lorraine Sullenberger. Warner Brothers is releasing “Sully” on September 9 in a bid to get an early start on potential awards attention.
