‘Tangent Realms’ Tracks the Ethereal Work of Turkish Artist C.M. Kösemen

"It's about what happens when we find ourselves at a unique point in our lives, and wonder about what might have been, and what may be."

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Tangent Realms: The Worlds of C.M. Kösemen

Logline: A new documentary about a young Turkish artist exploring imagined worlds both vastly cosmic and deeply personal.

Elevator Pitch:

“Tangent Realms: The Worlds of C.M. Kösemen” is a new documentary about a young Turkish artist who explores imagined worlds both cosmic and personal. By merging science with art, evidence with surrealism, the natural world with mythology, Memo Kösemen continuously asks a dominant theme in his various creations: “What If …?” It’s about what happens when we find ourselves at a unique point in our lives, and wonder about what might have been, and what may be. It’s about how we continue to evolve as individuals, with relationships, with our pasts, and our potential futures.

Production Team:

Director/Producer: Kevin Schreck (“Persistence of Vision,” “The World According to David Liebe Hart”)
Co-Editor: Tara Sheffer (“13 Pieces of the Universe,” “Burden”)
Executive Producers: Bill & Kit Prendergast (“Persistence of Vision”)
Composer: Matt Evans (first-time film composer, but a highly talented avant-garde musician)

About the Film:

When you reach your late 20s and early 30s, you’re still young, but you’re also pretty far in this thing called “life.” Memo uses his art to explore not only hypothetical worlds and realities in science-fiction realms, but also to explore the possible “what-might-have-been’s” or “what-might-be” of his own life: Should he have stayed with another woman? Should he live a meager life as an artist? Should he have followed a different path? These are Memo’s inner demons that he explores in his art, and these are the questions that haunt us all at that age and in life.

Current Status: In the midst of production. We’re shooting our last two weeks in Istanbul this October. Then, it’s post-production time.
