Two years after his historical disaster film “Pompeii,” director Paul W.S. Anderson is back with the final installment in his “Resident Evil” film series, loosely based on Capcom video games of the same name. “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” the sixth film in the series, will pick up immediately after the events of the last film “Resident Evil: Retribution” and finds protagonist Alice (Milla Jovovich) as the only survivor of humanity’s last stand against the undead. Now, she must return to Raccoon City and join forces with old friends and unlikely allies to defeat the Umbrella Corporation once and for all. Anderson is best known for his film adaptations of video games as well as other sci-fi/horror fare. He first came to prominence with the 1998 film “Mortal Kombat,” a loose adaptation of the fighting video game, which was a giant commercial success. He then directed the box office bombs “Event Horizon” and “Soldier” before striking gold yet again with the first “Resident Evil” film. He has gone on to write and produce the entire “Resident Evil” series and has directed four of the six films in the franchise.
“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” will be released on January 27th, 2017 from Screen Gems.
