“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”

If the outline of Darth Vader’s trademark helmet gives you chills down your spine, prepare yourself for the final moments of the newest trailer for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

The Gareth Edwards-directed feature — which takes place shortly before the events of “A New Hope” kick off — has made no bones about featuring the Star Wars universe’s biggest bad of all time, the inimitable Darth Vader, in at least a supporting role, and our latest look at the film comes complete with a hell of a tease as to his appearance. Stay till the end, folks, there’s a treat awaiting you during this trailer’s final seconds.

This trailer isn’t all about Vader, though, as it features plenty of fresh material — much of it rolled out in secret at last month’s Star Wars Celebration — that play up the film’s bona fides as a war story, along with giving fans a deeper look at the life and attitude of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.

The new character will reportedly lead a pack of rogues and misfits on an ambitious mission to steal the Death Star plans, and while we know the end result of said mission (spoiler: they got ’em), that doesn’t diminish the drama of the story, which emphasizes plenty of action and a bevy of sequences that look pulled out of the “how to make a war movie” playbook.

But what of Jyn? After the success of “The Force Awakens” and its introduction of Daisy Ridley’s Rey, Star Wars fans have made it clear that they’re more than happy to see stories led by strong women, and “Rogue One” looks to be a continuation of the trend. This new trailer gives us our fullest look yet at Jyn the leader, and the unique band of rogues she’s about to lead into battle.
