Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will produce the FX comedy pilot “Singularity” from “Silicon Valley” writer Sonny Lee. The project hit the market in May but just landed at FX recently, Deadline reports. FX ordered the pilot based on just a pitch.
Set in the future, the show features a world where artificial intelligence has taken over many of humans’ daily responsibilities. The tone of the show will be similar to the broad humor of Rogen and Goldberg’s disaster movie “This Is the End.” Lee apparently sought the pair out to get on board due to the shared sensibility between his series idea and the film. Lee will serve as an executive producer on the project, which will be produced by Rogen and Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures and FX Productions.
After writing hit movies like “Superbad,” “Pineapple Express” and “This Is the End” together, Rogen and Goldberg have moved into working on scripted TV with AMC’s “Preacher” and the pilot “Future Man” for Hulu.
In addition to “Silicon Valley,” Lee has served as a writer on shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “2 Broke Girls” and “The Real O’Neals.”
Rogen and Goldberg are coming off a very good weekend. Their raunchy, R-rated CG animated comedy “Sausage Party” took in just under $34 million at the box office after hitting theaters Friday.
