‘Taxi Driver’ Trailer: Robert De Niro Still Wants to Wash the Scum Off the Streets in Martin Scorsese’s Haunting Classic

The film turns 40 this year.

Fittingly enough for such a bloody, angry movie, “Taxi Driver” celebrates its ruby anniversary this year. Occasioned by that 40-year milestone, the fine folks at Park Circus are doing their thing and re-releasing Martin Scorsese’s classic, which remains a standout among his vast body of work and the watershed decade of which it’s an essential part. Watch its new trailer below.

Like the film itself, this new look focuses on evincing a most unsettling mood: “All the animals come out at night,” Robert De Niro narrates as his Travis Bickle roams the streets of New York from behind the wheel of a cab. “Someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum of the streets.” “Taxi Driver” may always be best remembered for its “You talkin’ to me?” sequence, but Bickle is even more disturbing when his demons have yet to fully surface.

Park Circus’ upcoming re-release is only slated for the UK at the moment, so those of us on the other side of the pond may have to wait awhile longer before seeing “Taxi Driver” on the silver screen again.
