‘The Thinning’: YouTube Megastars Logan Paul & Peyton List Try Their Luck With A Dystopian Teen Feature

The first feature length thriller to be released on YouTube Red comes from "Internet Famous" co-writer and director Michael Gallagher.

Legendary Digital Studios and YouTube have partnered on the feature length thriller “The Thinning,” starring digital influencer Logan Paul and Disney Channel star Peyton List. The movie will premiere on YouTube Red, the company’s subscription service, later this year.

Paul is a Vine star with more than 26 million total followers, while List is known best for the Disney series “Jessie” and “Bunk’d” and has over 12 million followers across all social media platforms. Their co-stars Lia Marie Johnson (“Kids React”), Calum Worthy (“Austin & Ally”), Ryan Newman (“The Thundermans”) and director Michael Gallagher (“Internet Famous”) give the film a total social media footprint of more than 50 million followers.

“[YouTube Red] gives our film an exciting opportunity to connect with a huge audience of digitally native fans eager to see their favorite performers in high-end content in a proven genre,” Legendary Digital Senior Vice President Greg Siegel said in a statement.

The first feature length thriller to be released on YouTube Red, “The Thinning” centers on two students (Paul and List) in a world where an aptitude test is used for population control. The students discover the test is a cover up for a conspiracy and attempt to uncover the truth.

Gallagher wrote the screenplay with his “Internet Famous” co-writer Steve Greene. The pair and producer Jana Winternintz won Legendary’s House of Horrors short film contest, launched in partnership with YouTube Spaces to find emerging talent.
