One of the last remaining awards players waiting to world premiere, Mike Mills’ “20th Century Women” has finally gotten a wonderful new teaser trailer in advanced of its Centerpiece screening at the New York Film Festival on October 8. It’s been six years since Mills’ “Beginners,” which won Christopher Plummer the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and it appears “20th Century Women” will once again tackle the ever-evolving dynamics of family through turbulent times.
Annette Bening returns to the big screen as Dorothea Fields, a single mother in 1979 Santa Barbara doing her best to raise her child (Lucas Jade Zumann). The boy’s coming-of-age is further shaped by Abbie (Greta Gerwig), a free-spirited photographer living as a boarder in the Fields’ home, and Julie (Elle Fanning), a provocative neighbor, all of whom impart different lessons about love and freedom. Billy Crudup also stars.
A24 and Annapurna will release “20th Century Women” in select theaters December 25. Watch the first teaser trailer.
