Will Smith is wasting no time rebounding from the dismal reviews of “Suicide Squad.” This December, the actor partners up with “The Devil Wears Prada” director David Frankel for a drama that puts a new spin on the iconic “It’s A Wonderful Life,” or at least that’s what the inspirational debut trailer is selling.
Smith stars as a once-sucessful business man who has slipped into severe depression following a personal tragedy. His friends, played by the likes of Edward Norton, Kate Winslet and Michael Pena, grow concerned when he begins writing letters to various objects and themes like love and death. But then the seemingly impossible happens: Love, Time and Death show up to meet him, played by Keira Knightley, Jacob Latimore and Helen Mirren, respectively. Guided by these polar opposite forces, Smith’s character learns to live again and begins to put his life back together.
Given the film’s close premise to the beloved James Stewart classic, it’s no wonder Warner Bros. is opening the film just in time for the Christmas movie rush. “Collateral Beauty” hits theaters December 16, where it will go to battle against “Star Wars: Rogue One.” Watch the debut trailer below.
