Joe Manganiello is set to play Deathstroke in the upcoming Ben Affleck solo Batman film, The Wall Street Journal has revealed. This news follows The Wrap’s confirmation that Deathstroke would be Bruce Wayne’s villainous adversary in the project, which came hours after Affleck tweeted footage of the masked and then unidentified actor in full costume:
Although The Dark Knight has certainly had his fair share of enemy challengers, it seems like he’s got his work cut out for him with this baddie. The popular DC Comics villain was first seen in 1980 in “The New Teen Titans.” Originally known as Deathstroke the Terminator (and Slade Joseph Wilson), he is a mercenary and unparalleled assassin.
This will not be Manganiello’s first time venturing into the world of superheroes, as he portrayed Corporal Eugene “Flash” Thompson in the first and third installments of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” films. The “True Blood” actor will also be a voice in the upcoming “Surfs: The Lost Village” as Hefty Smurf.
Affleck can already be seen as Batman in this year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” as well as this summer’s “Suicide Squad.”
It has not been confirmed when the Batman film will be shot or released.
