The film is based on the true story of a siege in September 1961, when approximately 150 Irish soldiers, most of whom had never been in battle, were sent on a United Nations peacekeeping mission during the Congo Crisis in Katanga. When the company camp was attacked by Katangan mercenaries in support of their Prime Minister, the small Irish troop fended off and caused major casualties to a group of over 3,000 Katangan militia.
The actors went through grueling training for the film at a bootcamp in South Africa, as director Richard Smythe felt the only way to get the men to appear realistic “was just to train them like soldiers.” Watch the action-packed trailer below.
This is not the only opportunity to see Dornan in uniform, as he can currently be seen in “Anthropoid,” a WWII film about Czech resistance fighters.
