Dance and work your cares away when “Fraggle Rock” returns to HBO in HD. Almost 30 years since it finished its run in 1987, the classic muppet TV series, created by Jim Henson, is making its way back to the cable network channel. Per Deadline, the new digitally remastered version will air at the end year on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now.
“In remastering the series, illuminate has created a contemporary look for the series with meticulous attention paid to every detail — sharpening the images, cleaning up the contrast, increasing the vibrancy of the colors and re-formatting for wide-screen — all under the careful supervision of Brian Henson,” said Richard Goldsmith, executive vice president of global distribution for the Jim Henson Co. in a press release.
“Fraggle Rock” debuted on HBO in 1983 and featured a cast of puppets called Fraggles, Doozers and Gorgs. The furry creatures would go on fun adventures and include a wide variety of music, all while embracing themes of friendship, diversity, tolerance and caring for the planet.
After its initial run, HBO reran the series, then it made its way to TNT, Disney Channel and Odyssey Network in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The series also had a Saturday-morning cartoon version on NBC. “Fraggle Rock” has been seen in over 98 countries and praised for using the creatures to deal with serious issues.
