Danny Boyle’s 1996 cult classic “Trainspotting” is an interesting juxtaposition. It’s bleak subject matter and disorienting aesthetic doesn’t necessarily make you want to watch it endlessly, yet it’s characters are so memorable and, dare we say, lovable in the most messed up way that you can’t help but want to spend more time with them. That’s part of what makes “Trainspotting 2” one of the more unique sequels hitting theaters next year. Titled “T2,” the film is a massive reunion that finds Boyle, screenwriter John Hodge and stars Ewan McGregor Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle all back together again.
The film is set 20 years after the original and finds our recovering drug addicts forced to reunite for another round of mayhem. The trailer begins with McGregor and Miller’s characters reuniting for the first time in decades, and the clip teases that things haven’t been all that smooth since we last met up with the gang. Light on plot, the trailer gets more disorienting by the second, and it seems that Boyle’s trademark flashiness is well intact.
TriStar pictures will release “T2” in U.S. theaters March 3. Watch the raunchy new teaser below.
