This morning, “Shameless” star Emmy Rossum announced on Twitter that she’s returning to work on the Showtime comedy-drama following a pay dispute. “Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life,” she says. “I’m so happy to continue [with] my ‘Shameless’ family! Back to work in May!”
Since Friday, Rossum has been locked in a pay standoff with Showtime that held up a possible eighth season for the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress was “not only seeking salary parity with co-star William H. Macy…she is taking the position she should be paid more per-episode than Macy makes after years of earning much less than her Emmy-nominated co-star.” Yesterday, Macy came out in support of Rossum’s claim, saying that “she works as hard as I do. She deserves everything.”
A remake of a British series set in Chicago, “Shameless” follows the family of Frank Gallagher (Macy), a single father of six children who struggle with the trials and tribulations of life. The series premiered in January, 2011 and has aired seven seasons. Beside Macy and Rossum, it stars Jeremy Allen White (“Afterschool”), Cameron Monaghan (“Click”), Shanola Hampton (“Reba”) and more.
Showtime has not officially renewed “Shameless” for an eighth season.
