Cynthia Nixon Officially Announces Candidacy for New York Governor

The actress has confirmed her plan to run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming New York election.

Cynthia Nixon is officially running for office. The “Sex and the City” actress announced Monday, March 19 her candidacy for Governor of New York. Nixon was long rumored to be thinking about running for Governor, but her announcement on Twitter is the first time she has confirmed her bid for office.

“I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor,” Nixon wrote on Twitter, accompanied with a video announcing her candidacy. Nixon points out in the video that she is a native New Yorker and a public school parent. She also cites cleaning up the New York City subway system on her list of talking points.

In addition to the video, Nixon has launched an official website for her campaign and is asking for donations. The website reads: “Cynthia hasn’t been bought and paid for by special interests and won’t be accepting any corporate contributions in this campaign. Instead our campaign will be powered by the people.”

Nixon will go up against incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the race. You can watch her announcement video below.
