Review: 'I Don't Know How She Does It' Is A Pained, Unfunny, Politically Questionable Bore

One of the "charmingly neurotic" tics of the main character of "I Don't Know How She Does It," played brittlely and with affected strain by Sarah Jessica Parker, is making to-do lists. Since the year is 2011 and editing software has come a long way, we see her visualize the list as the prepares for sleep – everything from arranging her daughter's play date to doing some Kegel exercises (yes, seriously) – with words and small images appearing tattooed on the ceiling of her bohemian chic Boston apartment (accompanied by a never-ending stream of voice-over narration). While watching "I Don't Know How She Does It," which at a swift 89 minutes sti...

Julianne Moore, Greg Kinnear To Star In 'The English Teacher'

Indie comedy "The English Teacher" is about to get an infusion of 1990's-flavored star power. Julianne Moore has signed on to play the title role, with Greg Kinnear in an unspecified supporting position (filthy!). Moore plays a small-town high school educator who has to deal with the unannounced return of a star pupil who crashed and burned trying to start a career in New York City. Moore eventually convinces the former student to direct his unproduced play at the high school, which yields all sorts of misunderstandings. Frankly, we'd rather see Amber Waves in this role than Moore, but perhaps that's our old high school teacher fantasies flar...

Watch: Sarah Jessica Parker In 'I Don't Know How She Does It' Trailer. We Don't Know How We Did It.

A few weeks back, "Bridesmaids" struck something of a blow for the female-fronted comedy, by doing what so few have in recent years, and remembering to be funny and touching while failing to be patronizing, unpleasant, one-dimensional and misogynistic in its depiction of its characters. Did it mark an opening of the floodgates? After all, the film's breakout star Melissa McCarthy, not exactly your traditional female lead, has already landed a starring role in a new project, while the more imminent films in the same genre, projects like "Bad Teacher" and "What's Your Number," seem to give some reason for optimism. Were the days of the mind-mel...

Watch: Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear & Jennifer Connelly In Trailer For 'Salvation Boulevard'

The next few months might be dominated by summer blockbusters, but we're also starting to get the festival hits from the last six months: acclaimed indies from Toronto, Sundance and SXSW, films like "Submarine," "Beginners," "The Trip" and "Page One," all land in the next while and a trailer has jus...

Greg Kinnear & Jane Curtin Join Ensemble 'I Don't Know How She Does It'

How can a woman, who is a high powered finance executive, handle a marriage with an architect (who shockingly makes less than she does) while raising two kids? Guess we'll find out soon enough as casting continues for "I Don't Know How She Does It."
