1996 Ft. Lauderdale Film Fest Bestows Honors

Scott Hicks'"Shine" took top honors at this years Ft.
Lauderdale Film Festival. The film, which opened the festival, was honored
with the jury's Best Film Award and the audience award. Iara Lee's "Synthetic Pleasures"
received Best Documentary honors, while "Guantanamera" was presented
with the Best Foreign Language award, Nick Park's "A Close Shave" received the
Best Short award and Karl Slovin's "Sex & The Other Man" won the Golden Palm
for Best US Indie.
Additionally, Presidents Awards were presented in the following categories: Direction - Lars von Trier ("Breaking The Waves")
Actress - Emily Watson
("Breaking The Waves")
Actor - Noah Taylor ("Shine")
Production - Massimo Cristaldi ("Gentle Into The Night")
Script - Jonathan Harvey ("Beautiful Thing")
English Language - "Gentle Into The Night"
Foreign Language - "Sicario"
First Feature/Director Karl Slovin ("Sex & The Other Man")
First Feature/Writer - George Escuerra & Robert Foulkes ("Talk To Me")
First Feature/Actor - Laureano OIivarez ("Sicario")
First Feature/Actress - Cheryl Clifford ("Talk To Me")
Cinematography - Claudio Rocha ("The Whole Wide World")
Music - Pat Metheny ("Gentle Into The Night")
Silver Wave Award for Outstanding Cinematic Contribution in a Featare Film - Marcello Mastrianna ("Trois Vies Et Une Seule Mort").
