Here's our take on the best director category, which definitely has Steve McQueen and Alfonso Cuaron seemingly locked down.

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions for the Golden Globe Awards through January 12th, when the winners are announced.

In a lineup that could very well be mirrored at the Oscars, Paul Greengrass and Alexander Payne seem like the only ones out of this heated race, which could very well end up going to Alfonso Cuaron even as Steve McQueen and David O. Russell's films win in their respective best picture categories.

Our take below. Check out all predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Alfonso Cuaron - "Gravity"
Paul Greengrass - "Captain Phillips"
Steve McQueen - "12 Years A Slave"
Alexander Payne - "Nebraska"
David O Russell - "American Hustle"

Will win: Alfonso Cuaron - "Gravity"
Could win: Steve McQueen - "12 Years A Slave" or David O. Russell, "American Hustle"
Should win: Alfonso Cuaron - "Gravity"
Shoulda been here: Joel & Ethan Coen - "Inside Llewyn Davis"
