2014 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Drama Actor

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions for the Golden Globe Awards through January 12th, when the winners are announced.

Here's our take on the best motion drama actor category, where four assumed Oscar nominees -- Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew McConaughey, Robert Redford and Tom Hanks -- battling it out for the win while Idris Elba is just happy to be there. One of the toughest calls of the night, for sure.

Our take below. Check out all predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Chiwetel Ejiofor - "12 Years A Slave"
Idris Elba - "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom"
Tom Hanks - "Captain Phillips"
Matthew McConaughey - "Dallas Buyers Club"
Robert Redford - "All Is Lost"

Will win: Chiwetel Ejiofor - "12 Years A Slave"
Could win: Matthew McConaughey - "Dallas Buyers Club" or Robert Redford - "All Is Lost"
Should win: Chiwetel Ejiofor - "12 Years A Slave"
Shoulda been here: Michael B. Jordan - "Fruitvale Station"

I wish the Academy, HFPA, Guild, and the Critic Association just be like The Voice. They only see the performance and not how they look like. But sad of how Award Ceremonies are, we are just some American idol. #Itissosad

I agree with this prediction although i feel they might favour Mathew over Chiwetel just because of the physical transformation he went through for the role. Also, the fact that he has been a commercial actor who has made a comeback by taking on more in depth meaningful roles. They might wanna reward that. But then again, this is the HFPA and not the AMPAS, so they might just go for the best performance which was Chiwetel. I also have a feeling Idris Elba will not get an Oscar nomination.

I think you all sorely underestimate Michael B. Jordan's chances to be nominated for "Fruitvale Station."

Agreed. He will get an Oscar nomination in my opinion, Idris will not.
