2014 Golden Globe Predictions: Best Drama Actress

Cate Blanchett in 'Blue Jasmine'

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions for the Golden Globe Awards through January 12th, when the winners are announced.

Here's our take on the best actress in a drama category, which -- like the Oscars -- seems to be down to Cate Blanchett v. Sandra Bullock. Any one else winning would be a huge upset.

Our take below. Check out all predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Cate Blanchett - "Blue Jasmine"
Sandra Bullock - "Gravity
Judi Dench - "Philomena"
Emma Thompson - "Saving Mr Banks"
Kate Winslet - "Labor Day"

Will win: Cate Blanchett - "Blue Jasmine"
Could win: Sandra Bullock - "Gravity"
Should win: Cate Blanchett - "Blue Jasmine"
Shoulda been here: Adele Exarchopoulos - "Blue Is The Warmest Color"

I'm hoping Emma wins because her performance In saving mr
Banks was amazing but Kate was also really good in Labor Day

Picking between Cate and Sandra is a 'Sophie's Choice' moment. Both were outstanding in my opinion. They might go with Cate as her film will lose Gravity in other categories.

My god what about Prisoners Jake and Hugh where amazing, the movie great!!!!

  • NZAU | December 31, 2013 1:43 AM

BK, agreed. They were good but the story/script let them down. Their characters were not as well developed as would have been necessary for them to give really outstanding performances esp Jake's charachter. But they did good with what they had. That story had so much potential but ended up having so many gaps...

Adele doesn't deserve it, her co star Lea deserves it more. But Adele is so far up director's behind-anything is possible.

  • Mirko | November 30, 2013 1:38 PMReply

    Absolutely, Emma Thompson in nomination.
