Claire Denis’ “35 Shots of Rum” has been acquired for U.S. distribution by The Cinema Guild, it has been announced. The film, about a father and daughter whose relationship is strained by the arrival of a handsome young man, premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and was one of the top picks in an indieWIRE poll of the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. The Cinema Guild will open the film theatrically later this year. “‘There is no one making films today like Claire Denis and ‘35 Shots’ is her finest film in years,” commented Ryan Krivoshey, Director of Distribution for The Cinema Guild. “We will do whatever it takes to get audiences to see this magnificent film.” Denis’ previous work includes “The Intruder” (2004), “Trouble Every Day” (2001), “Beau Travail” (1999), “Nenette and Boni” (1996), “I Can’t Sleep” (1994) and “Chocolat” (1988). The deal was negotiated by Ryan Krivoshey, Director of Distribution for The Cinema Guild with Adeline Fontan Tessaur for Elle Driver.
