Taking place on three continents, the film stars Chloe Sevigny as a nun in South Africa, Lucy Liu as a mobile blood collection service worker in China, and Shawn Ashmore as a porn actor in Canada. The festival will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia from September 15-24.

Amnon Buchbinder's comedy "Whole New Thing" is also slated for this year's festival. In the coming-of-age comedy, Aaron Webber plays a precocious boy who develops a crush on his English teacher, Don. Tim Burton and Mike Johnson's "Corpse Bride" will also be featured at AFF. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter lend their voices to this animated fantasy about a man who marries a corpse by mistake.

Other films showing in this year's line up are writer/director Michael Mabbott's "The Life & Hard Times of Guy Terrifico," a mockumentary about an early 1970s country western singer; Sturla Gunnarsson's "Beowulf and Grendel," which is adapted from the violent Anglo-Saxon epic poem; and Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto." Based on the bestseller by Patrick McCabe, the film is about a former foster child played by Cillian Murphy who moves from rural Ireland to London where he transforms himself into a transvestite cabaret singer.

Eight films will be screened as part of the "Rogers Presents... A Series of Special Presentations." Featured films include Mike Mills' "Thumbsucker," Phil Morrison's "Junebug," Philip Zlotorynski's "My Big Fat Independent Movie," Nick Willing's "The River King," Lars von Trier's "Manderlay," Steve James' "Reel Paradise," Lajos Koltai's "Fateless" and Miranda July's "Me and You and Everyone We Know."

Among other shorts screening are Kate Pomerant's comedy "All Dolled Up," Jacob Owen's gay hamster love story "Copain de Paris," Michael Melski's satirical "Focus Group Therapy" and Stephen Arnold's "The Heavy Breather."

As part of the alFresco Film on the Hill series, there will be a free outdoor screening of the 1965 musical "The Sound of Music" on September 9 on Citadel Hill.

Lasse Hallström's "An Unfinished Life" will close this year's festival on September 24. Set in Wyoming, Robert Redford plays a retired rancher whose world is turned upside down when his estranged daughter-in-law (Jennifer Lopez) reenters his life.
