Boulder Fest Rocks to 47 Films and Alec Baldwin

Coined as one of the “25 coolest film festivals” by MovieMaker Magaine, this year’s Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) will play host to 31 filmmakers, there to showcase 47 films.

Running from February 11 - 14 in Boulder, Colorado, BIFF over the years “has become a must-attend film festival with screenings, parties, a red carpet gala and special events,” according to BIFF’s director, Kathy Beeck. This year’s festival kicks off with an opening night red-carpet gala and screening of Daniel Adams’ “The Lighkeepers,” starring Richard Dreyfuss, Blythe Danner and Bruce Dern. Danner, Adams and producer Straw Weisman will be participating in a Q&A following the screening.

To cap the festival on a high note, BIFF’s Closing Night Awards Ceremony will feature a tribute to Alec Baldwin, where hey will be presented with the fest’s 2010 Award for Excellence in Acting. A Q&A with the actor will follow his career retrospective.

Highlight of Films Screening at This Year’s BIFF:

“I Am Love”, Italy
Directed by Luca Guadagnino
This lushly photographed Italian love story reunites director Guadagnino with his “The Protagonists” star Tilda Swinton. Reviews from its screenings at TIFF and Venice have compared it to everything from a Douglas Sirk melodrama to Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story.” Expect the unexpected.

“Last Train Home”, China
Directed by Lixin Fan
As China grows into becoming the world’s next superpower, this documentary follows a family’s journey home along with 200 other million peasant workers to the Spring Festival. Nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

“Mugabe and the White African”, UK
Directed by Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson
A searing documentary that’s on the Academy Awards shortlist. Winner of Best Documentary at the British Independent Film Awards and nominated for an award at this year’s BAFTA’s.

“The Misfortunates”, Belgium/Netherlands Directed by Felix Van Groeningen Winner of the C.I.C.A.E. Award at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, the film is Belgium’s official submission for the 2010 Academy Awards. “Soundtrack for a Revolution”, U.S. Directed by Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman This award winning documentary depicts the American civil rights movement through the music that helped fuel the fight. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at last year’s Istanbul International Film Festival. “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers”, U.S. Directed by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith This documentary profiles a high-level Pentagon official, former Marine and Vietnam War hawk who discovered top-secret reports that detailed lies the Pentagon had been telling the public about the war. The National Board of Review awarded it their Freedom of Expression Awards last year.
