1. Netflix Acquires 'The Square:' Netflix officially announced the acquisition of "The Square" today, and plans for an early, exclusive 2014 premiere on the service in all territories. The documentary is currently in the midst of an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run, which means that the Emmys aren't the only awards Netflix could be making its way into, according to Indiewire's Alison Willmore. Read Willmore's full story on the acquisition here.

2. Top Indies in iTunes: Each Monday we present you with the most up-to-date list of Top 10 (Indie) Movies in iTunes (this list combines rentals and purchases). The big addition to the list this week is "Frances Ha," the Noam Baumbach-directed film starring Greta Gerwig, which landed at number 9 in its first week on iTunes. "Girl Most Likely" and "Stuck in Love" continued to occupy the first two spots on the list. See the full list here.

3. Amazon Originals: Amazon will make its official entry into the world of original programming this month with the launches of its first two half-hour comedy series "Alpha House" and "Betas" this month.  Interestingly, unlike Netflix, Amazon won't be releasing full seasons all at once. Amazon will release the first three episodes of each series for free via Amazon Instant Video on Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, Roku, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U, and the web. Read the full story here.

4. Transmedia Guide: Filmmakers and artists have been exploring transmedia, or new ways to tell stories in innovative and immersive ways using different platforms and new technology. 5. Amazon Kindle Sale: To celebrate the FAA's new rules allowing portable electronic devices to stay on during the take offs and landings of commercial flights in the U.S., Amazon is offering a  special one-day discount Monday. "We've been fighting for our customers on this issue for years, and we are thrilled by the FAA's recent decision," said Amazon vice president Drew Herdener in a statement.
