Darling Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) will continue their uncomfortably close relationship for another season. A&E has renewed its "Psycho" prequel series "Bates Motel" for a second 10-episode season. The show, which comes from executive producers Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights"), has turned out to be a hit for the network -- its premiere was the most-watched original drama debut in the key demographics in the A&E's history.

Season two of "Bates Motel" is slated to premiere in 2014, and will begin pre-production later this year. The fourth episode of the first season of "Bates Motel," directed by "Downloading Nancy" helmer Johan Renck, aired last night. The show is a look at the formative years of Norman Bates, albeit one set in the present day, and co-stars Max Thieriot ("Disconnect"), Olivia Cooke ("Blackout"), Nicola Peltz ("The Last Airbender) and Nestor Carbonell ("Lost," "The Dark Knight Rises"). "Bates Motel" is produced by Universal Television.
