Late Summer Theatrical Release Planned for New Comedy-DramaCo-starring Rebecca Hall

New York, NY (May 24, 2011) – MPI Media Group today announced it has acquired all North American rights to A BAG OF HAMMERS, a new offbeat comedy-drama with an exciting young cast, including Jason Ritter, Jake Sandvig and Rebecca Hall. An August theatrical release is anticipated for the film – from first-time director Brian Crano – to be followed by Video on Demand and DVD availability. A BAG OF HAMMERS, a co-production of Manor Film, Two Ships and Locomotive, was a popular entry at the South by Southwest festival. The distribution deal was negotiated by Greg Newman, executive vice president of MPI Media Group, and Josh Braun of Submarine. “We consider ourselves very lucky to have found A Bag of Hammers,” stated Greg Newman. “Brian Crano and his remarkable cast have crafted a unique film whose mixture of comedy and poignancy will move all who see it.” A BAG OF HAMMERS stars Jake Sandvig (Easy A) and Jason Ritter (The Event) as Alan and Ben, slacker buddies who run a valet-parking scam to steal cars. Their lucrative operation, however, is threatened when a stressed-out single mom (Carrie Preston, True Blood) moves in next door with her street-smart young son (Chandler Canterbury, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). When Alan’s sister (Rebecca Hall of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Town and the upcoming Everything Must Go) notices the boy is being neglected, she calls child protective services, which sets off a chain of startling events that will change everyone’s lives. “I am thrilled to see the film released by MPI Media Group. I hope that A Bag of Hammers will give audiences a good laugh and offer something of a surprise, in both theaters and homes,” says director Brian Crano.

The cast also includes Todd Louiso (School for Scoundrels) and Gabriel Macht (Love and Other Drugs, The Spirit). The film was written by director Crano and star Sandvig. It was produced by Peter Friedlander (Big Love), Lucy Barzun Donnelly (Grey Gardens), and Jennifer Barrons About MPI Media GroupThe MPI Media Group is a leading producer, distributor and licensor of films, home entertainment, historical footage and more.
