RE: Theatrical Display of "Kurt and Courtney" by Nick Broomfield
and Speech by Hank Harrison

Dear M. Bannings of the General Manager of the Roxie Theater:

Hillil Chodos and I represent Courtney Love. We have learned that the
Roxie Theater plans to display the film "Kurt and Courtney" by Nick
Broomfield starting on Friday, February 27, 1998. We have also been
informed that the Roxie plans to have Mr. Broomfield and Hank Harrison
speak at the 8:00 p.m. showing of the film on the 27th.

We are told that Mr. Broomfield's movie conveys the message (including by
displaying statements by Mr. Harrison and others) that Ms. Love killed her
husband Kurt Cobain or somehow participated in his murder. We know that
Mr. Harrison has made similar statements in the past, and assume that he
plans to use your theater as a forum in which to make them again.

Such accusations are false and defamatory, nothing more. They are
extremely damaging to Ms. Love, and very hurtful.

Ms. Love currently has no dispute of any sort with you, and does not want
one. However, if you display Mr. Broomfield's film, or offer a forum for
Mr. Broomfield or Mr. Harrison to speak, then under California law you are
equally liable with them for the damage caused by any false and malicious
statements about Ms. Love, as though you and the Roxie had made the
defamatory statements directly. It does not matter whether you claim to
take a position of "neutrality." By choosing to display the film or
provide a forum for them to speak, you are endorsing and participating in
their actions and statements, and are liable along with them for any
resulting damage.

Sincerely yours,

(signed)
