AFI LA Fest Welcomes Record Number, Awards Prizes

Boasting a record 30,000 attendees during a week long event, the 11th
Annual AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival concluded last week
awarding its top jury prize to "Character", a Dutch film directed by Mike van
Diem. A special mention was given to Peter Kosminsky from the United
Kingdom, for his film "No Child Of Mine".

The Festival's "Studio Prize" went to Stan Schofield's "Cost Of Living",
while the Best Actor Award went to Joe Russo for his role in "Pieces". The
Best Actress Award went to Edie Falco for her role in "Cost Of Living". The
Festival's Best New Director Award was presented to Peter Turman for his
film "Without A Map", while the Best New Writer Award went to James McManus
for "The Big Empty".

Jury members for the festival included Allison Anders, Nick Cassevettes,
Charles Burnett, Stuart Cornfeld, Rick Mischel and Stacey Title.
