Alamo Drafthouse Unveils Plans to Open New Location in Brooklyn in 2015

Chris Gallevo
Furthering Brooklyn's reputation as the new hot spot for arthouse theaters, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema unveiled plans to open a third location in New York: Alamo Drafthouse City Point. City Point is a 1.8 million square foot mixed use project in downtown Brooklyn being developed by Acadia Realty Trust and Washington Square Partners.

Alamo Drafthouse Founder and CEO Tim League said, "Although more than two years on the horizon, I can tell you that the City Point Brooklyn Alamo will be our best theater yet." Kenneth Berstein, President and CEO of Acadia Realty Trust, welcomed Alamo Drafthouse to the City Point tenant roster and added that the cinema will be a "fantastic entertainment anchor for the downtown Brooklyn community."

The venue will feature seven screens of new releases, repertory programming, the Alamo's unique signature programming in both 35mm and digital formats, as well as provide food and drink service to your seat -- all while upholding its famously strict no-talking policy. The new theater is scheduled to open in 2015.

Score one for Brooklyn...and take away a point from the Upper West Side. Earlier this year I read here in Indiewire about the Alamo Drafthouse potentially taking over the Metro theater on Broadway in the upper 9os.
