Starz Media's Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired all rights to Scott Glosserman's mocku-slasher "Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon, Mark Ward," vice president acquisitions, Anchor Bay Entertainment announced Monday. The film, which premiered at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival will be largest theatrical release for Anchor Bay Entertainment, which specializes in the horror genre. The company will open the film in the U.S. on Jan. 5, 2007. The film stars Nathan Baesel ("Invasion"), who plays the lead character, and Angela Goethals ("Spanglish"), as well as Robert Englund ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), Scott Wilson ("Junebug") and Zelda Rubinstein ("Poltergeist I, II, & III,"). "'Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon' is a smart, affectionate tribute to the horror genre," commented Ward in a statement. "Scott Glosserman and company have made the next great American horror film, which is sure to resonate with fans of the genre, as well as a broad spectrum of moviegoers." [Brian Brooks]
