Applications for the new program, as well as the traditional shorts program, are being accepted now thru January 7, 2015.

The American Film Institute has announced that it is launching an episodic component to its prestigious AFI Directing Workshop for Women, a groundbreaking discovery and development program that is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Episodic participants will produce content for the web and streaming services alongside the participants of the program's flagship shorts program.

The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation will support a single participant, who, care of AFI's press release, "will support an individual participant who embodies a diverse voice."
