James Marsh‘s “Man on Wire” and Ari Folman‘s “Waltz With Bashir” shared top honors at tonight’s IDA Documentary Awards.  Both films tied for the Distinguished Feature award, as announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles hosted by Morgan Spurlock.  Other major honors included a centerpiece tribute to Werner Herzog, short film honors to Amanda Micheli and Isabel Vega‘s “La Corona, and an audience award to Chris Taylor‘s “Food Fight.”

The inaugural Avid Excellence in Editing Award was given to veteran filmmaker Sam Pollard came with both $2500 worth of editing software and a $5,000 charitable contribution made by Avid to the organization of the winner’s choice.  Pollard, currently in postproduction on HBO’s highly anticipated Barack Obama documentary, revealed that he is donating the money to Wide Horizons for Children, in Waltham, MA.  Wide Horizons facilitates domestic and international adoption.

Winning films from tonight’s event will be screened tomorrow, December 6th at DocuFest, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 AM at the Eastman Kodak Screening Room in Los Angeles.  Most filmmakers will be in attendance for Q&A’s following these films.
