"Bad Education," "Head On," and "The Sea Inside" Top European Film Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 17th annual European Film Awards were announced today, with Pedro Almodovar's "Bad Education," fellow Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar's "The Sea Inside" and Fatih Akin's "Head On" each tying with five nominations each. Also receiving multiple nods were Theo Angelopoulos' "Trilogy" and Christophe Barratier's "Les Choiristes" with three nominations, and Mike Leigh's "Vera Drake" and Agnes Jaoui's "Look at Me" both receiving two. All of the directors aside from Leigh received noms for best European director, while "Bad Education," "Vera Drake," and "The Sea Inside" were tapped for possible best European Film kudos.
Also up for best European film is Lukas Moodysson's "A Hole in My Heart," (Sweden/Denmark) and Christophe Barratier's "The Chorus" (France). Nimrod Antal, meanwhile, is also up for best director for "Kontroll" (Hungary). Joshua Marston's "Maria Full of Grace" is among the films selected in the non European film category, along with Wong Kar-wai's "2046," Walter Salles' "The Motorcycle Diaries," Michel Gondry's "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," Ousmane Sembene's "Moolaade," Park Chanwook's "Old Boy," and Zhan Yimou's "House of Flying Daggers." The European Film Awards will take place in Barcelona on December 11.
