Berlin Opener 'Farewell, My Queen' Picked Up by Cohen Media Group

Cohen Media Group has acquired this year's Berlin Film Festival opener "Farewell, My Queen," for U.S. distribution. The film, directed by Benoit Jacquot ("Tosca"), takes place over the first days of the French Revolution and is told from the perspective of the servants at Versailles. Diane Kruger ("Inglourious Basterds") plays Marie Antoinette. The film is in competition for Berlin's Gold and Silver Bears. Go here for Indiewire's review. The deal was negotiated by Gary Rubin, Cohen Media Group’s Executive Vice President, who handles acquisitions for the company and Adeline Fontan Tessaur  co/director of Elle Driver, it was confirmed today by Charles S. Cohen, Chairman and CEO of Cohen Media Group. Mr Cohen explains, "We are proud for the opportunity to present the latest film by the internationally renowned director, Benoit Jacquot. This continues our comittment to bring the highest quality films by the directors we and film enthusiasts most admire to audiences in the United States." Ms. Fontan Tessaur adds, “We are extremely excited to work with the Cohen Media Group on Farewell, My Queen. We look forward to this collaboration and its eventual success.” Directed by Benoit Jacquot (Tosca, Villa Amalia), "Farewell, My Queen," stars Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) as Marie Antoinette, Lea Seydoux (as Sidonie, the Queen’s young reader)  and Virginie Ledoyen( the Duchess Gabrielle).  Adapted by Jacquot and Gilles Taurand from the Chantal Thomas novel, of the same name, the story is set during the first 3 days of the French Revolution, as seen from the perspective of the Private reader of Marie Antoinette at Versailles.
