To mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Germany's most successful post-war director, Ranier Werner Fassbinder, the Berlinale, taking place February 8-18, will host a restored for cinema gala of "Berlin Alexanderplatz," which the festival describes as "one of the finest of his artistic accomplishments: the tragic story of Franz Biberkopf, based on an Alfred Doblin novel." The premiere--screening in two parts on February 9--will be attended by the stars Gunter Lamprecht, Hanna Schygulla, Barbara Sukowa, Gottfried John and also Doblin's grandson, Stefan Doblin.
