The Emmys awards calendar may not be as intense as the Oscars' end-of-year release schedule, but there are a few big contenders lining up to debut just before the eligibility deadline on May 31. Along with the miniseries "Roots" and Netflix's "Grace and Frankie," now "Bloodline" will officially be a contender for the 2016 Emmys, as it's set its Season 2 release for May 27.
The Netflix drama earned Emmy nods for star Kyle Chandler and co-star Ben Mendelsohn in its first season, but Sissy Spacek and the drama itself are certainly in the race for their respective categories. Some speculated that "Bloodline" wouldn't be released in time for the Emmys, but skipping a year of eligibility was likely too risky for the respected series from Todd Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler.
The official Season 2 synopsis reads as follows: "Season 2 begins with the Rayburn family struggling to conceal their unthinkable crime. Mysterious strangers from Danny's past arrive with a dangerous agenda. Law enforcement is closing in on the truth behind Danny's murder. And the tight-knit family's once harmonious relationship is poisoned by paranoia and mistrust as it slowly begins to unravel. Lies mount. Alliances are betrayed. Relationship are destroyed. With their backs against the wall, good people may have to do some very bad things..."
