Breathnach And Chabrol Take Top Prizes In San Sebastian

Paddy Breathnach's "I Went Down," from Ireland, was awarded the Jury Prize at the 45th San Sebastian International Film Festival. The jury, headed by noted Chinese director, Zhang Yimou, also announced other jury prize winners. French filmmaker Claude Chabrol took the Best Film and Best Director prize (the Gold Shell and Silver Shell respectively) for his 50th film, "Rien Ne Va Plus."

Federico Luppi received the Silver Shell acting award for his performance in the Spanish-Argentinian film, "Martin (Hache)" while Julie Christie was awarded the Silver Shell for Best Actress for her performance in "Afterglow." Additionally, the Best Photography prize was bestowed upon Nick Morris for his work on the British film, "Firelight." The film, by William Nicholson, also won a Special Jury Prize.
