SnagFilms Expands Reach with New Platforms

SnagFilms is expanding its pay-on-demand distribution through two new agreements: One with iN DEMAND, which will bring titles to affiliates such as Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks, and another with the Dish Network.

Together with its existing distribution network, SnagFilms is now available to nearly 90% of the U.S. VOD audience.

SnagFilms is also expanding distribution of its ad-supported, free-streamed movies by launching on Sony's online video portal Crackle.com, a platform that has deals that include YouTube, Hulu and Xbox Live. In the works is an agreement to provide about 1,000 titles to Aol's video portal.

SnagFilms, which is the parent company of Indiewire, also will be the first free movie streaming service to integrate with Facebook’s Open Graph platform, which lets viewers to share what they’ve watched, rated or queued.

“Film distribution is facing unprecedented disruption, as viewers want a broad choice of titles, available on demand on all possible devices,” said Rick Allen, SnagFilms’ CEO. “We’ve made the strategic investment necessary to ensure that our filmmakers can reach an audience on every major platform – the broadest footprint available to independent films.”
